New Pet Fashion Trend Has Dogs Going Full Desi In Anarkalis And Sherwanis. Because Why Should Hoomans Have All The Fun?

Giving us a tough competition with their cuteness, dogs are now running the race and pretty much winning it too in fashion as well. From pink and blue to green and red, our furry friends are acing Indian wear, courtesy of the latest trend. With celebrity dogs headlining the list, and twinning with their uber-cool moms during weddings, we can’t stop but scream ‘paw-fect.’

And this fun dressing-up trend, also reminds me of 2020’s internet sensation, Tika, the dog, who tutored some great fashion lessons and showed us all the outfits she had planned to wear this year, but could not because of the lockdown (super cute, right?). Ever since the big dog fashion debut, designer clothing for dogs has become a trend. From brocade to bow-ties, dogs dressed in ethnic wear are stealing the spotlight. Walking the aisle alongside their furry friends, dulhans today are opting for custom-made designs to dress their dogs in.

Take, for instance, the wedding of actors Rajkummar Rao and Patralekhaa Paul. Looking fab in her Sabyasachi red ensemble, the actress made sure to wrap her cute pet dog, Gaga, in customised wedding wear. Slaying a look similar to Patralekhaa’s wedding saree, designer Namita Alexander shared, “To match Patralekhaa’s Sabyasachi saree on her wedding day, I created a dress for her beloved dog Gaga. Gaga was a dream to work with and Co-operated during fittings and trials *woof woof*.”

Many celebrities including actress Keerthy Suresh who dressed up her doggos in red shirts and veshtis for Onam (can’t handle this cuteness), curate tailor-made outfits for special occasions.

Going beyond the stylish strap and winter approved jackets, many dog owners are looking for unique silhouettes for their pets. With many fashion giants like Versace and Gucci flagging off the pet fashion trend through specially curated collections, there’s no doubt that the runways soon will be filled with fur-friendly clothing. Fuelling this very trend is also an Australia based label– Puprika Boutique, that designs and curates aww-dorable outfits for doggos. Helping dogs look their festive best in anarkalis and sherwanis, the boutique also claims to have the world’s first ‘pattu pavadai’ (traditional frock) for dogs, plus the client images (a dog in this case) are even cuter. Just like Puprika, the Indian fashion market too, is gearing up for the trend and why not, our furry friends too deserve a chance to look chic for special celebrations.

Ranging from zardozi collars to embroidered lehengas, the market serves pet parents who are looking for a plethora of options. Measuring the style of the occasion wear with their dog’s personality, you too can find out the perfect fit for your pet. We often spot pet parents overburdening their fur babies with uncomfortable massive attires. But it is so impaw-tent to check your dog’s ease of movement and level of comfort. Look for breezy and light fabrics while getting an outfit stitched. Try to choose tailoring styles that go over the dog’s back and attach to the belly, or accessorise in case your dog ain’t that happy with designer wear.

With the advancement in designs and durability, dog fashion has definitely grown from mere puffer jackets, fancy booties to regal bandhgalas. And with millennials capturing more than one-third of all pet owners, it has become the largest pet-owning generation, over the years. This also suggests the troop’s affinity towards experiments that certainly has collided with their love for pets. And with the digital platter, being a one-stop shop for all things cool, the pet fashion market has observed a surprising boom in recent years. A witness to which have been, many fashion labels that deal in exclusive haute couture for pets (yes, you read that right). Moreover, the year 2020 turned out to be the biggest game-changer for the pet wear industry, followed by a deepened bond between humans and their furry friends, which has given rise to the trend. And all thanks to fashionable pet parents, especially female owners, the demand for luxury pet jewellery and a pair of Swarovski studded glasses has observed a sudden hike. While the stats exhibit some overwhelming results and give a hint about a trend leader in the making, we’re all here to double-tap the images coming our way.
