#AskHauterfly: What Is A Canadian Tuxedo?

No I am not speaking gibberish, neither am I making it up. Although this may be a technical fashion term that you’re not familiar with, once I explain to you what it actually is, I assure you that you’re going to have a ‘eureka!’ moment. Essentially, the term Canadian Tuxedo implies *drumroll* wearing double denim, usually in the form of a jacket and a pair of jeans. Yes, a trend that everyone is aware of, one which has been overly done in a hideous manner in the past. I mean come on, Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake, circa 2001, I refuse to believe that you weren’t going to a couple’s themed Halloween party. Fortunately, the years have been kind to the denim-on-denim trend, as it has surpassed said hideous phase and has bloomed into one of the greatest fashion styles to pull-off.

In 1951 singer Bing Crosby was denied entry into a Canadian hotel, because he was wearing a full denim outfit. A term that has also been added to the urban dictionary (you know things are getting pretty serious now), the Canadian Tuxedo was commonly seen in Hollywood cowboy movies, where characters would pair their jeans with denim jackets and that iconic neck-tie scarf. Making its comeback through Hollywood movie Super Troopers, this particular style was an absolute must-do in the early 2000s, as well. Seen in a completely fashionable avatar (finally restoring its former glory), the denim-on-denim was also recently spotted on many celebs such as Gigi Hadid and RiRi as well!

Now that you know what Canadian Tuxedo is, are you willing to give it a go this season?
