Exclusive: Ananya Panday On Walking For Pankaj And Nidhi, Recreating Rekha’s Vintage Looks, And A Fashion Influencer She Loves
On Day 4 of FDCI X Lakmé Fashion Week, we saw the return of edgy festive looks walking the ramp. For many designers, the idea of a half-veil, black in abundance and dopamine dressing, headlined the mood boards. But amongst the exquisite range of festive-appropriate attires was a refreshing punch of colours, packed with barbiecore, by designer duo–Pankaj and Nidhi. Reprising their classic silhouettes, tonal embroideries and edgy lapels, the designers presented their latest collection–Solaris, in association with Lakmé’s Vitamin C+ range. And walking for the designers was actress Ananya Panday, who slid into a body-fit blazer dress, with hair wrapped into a stylised bun. Panday’s tangerine pick found many lovers in the audience. With her style game always reaching for the likes, Ananya Panday spilt some beans on her showstopper moment, uncomfortable fashion, her favourite fashion influencer, and much more in an exclusive chat with me.

Q: Tell us about your look. What are you wearing?
Ananya Panday: So I’m wearing Pankaj and Nidhi and I am walking for them. I’m wearing this mini blazer dress and it’s this beautiful pop of orange colour.
Q: How was it collaborating with Pankaj and Nidhi?
Ananya Panday: It was super, super easy. It felt like I’d done this a hundred times before with them. And it felt like a glove when I tried the outfit.

Q: What is that one element in your makeup kit that you use for a bright glow?
Ananya Panday: Blush everywhere. I love cream blushes and I love putting them on my nose and my chin, not just my cheeks.

Q: Celebrities often slide into uncomfortable attires for the sake of fashion. Have you ever done that?
Ananya Panday: I have my stylist–Meagan giving her dead stares. I think sometimes, I have been in uncomfortable outfits, but I think the older I’m getting, I’m realising that for me it really shows when I’m uncomfortable in something. So I’d rather just be happy with what I’m wearing, and be comfortable with what I’m wearing. Otherwise, I’ll never be able to pull it off.

Q: A fashion influencer or social media page, you secretly stalk for fashion updates and take notes.
Ananya Panday: I love Komal Pandey. I think her reels and everything she makes are super creative. I also love how she re-styles the same pieces from her closet.

Ananya Panday: Rekha ji. I think she’s timeless. She’s iconic. I love all her sarees and her makeup looks from the eighties. She’s a legend.

Q: What are the three clothing items, colours, or styles that you would never wear?
Ananya Panday: Fur is one for sure. Secondly, I’m not into low-rise stuff, like low-rise jeans. Thirdly, I don’t understand the different colour-lined lips and then a different colour inside, like ombré.

Q: A pro-styling tip that celebrities use for red-carpet events?
Ananya Panday: Maybe like a boob tape. And also, just like what brides do when they put numbing cream on their ears when they wear really heavy earrings.
Q: How do you deal with hateful reviews on your outfit choices?
Ananya Panday: I’m honestly okay, if I’m happy with my look and how it turned out.
