‘The Male Feminist’: Sarika Reveals She Worked Till 4th Month Of Pregnancy, “I Lied And Said I Have A Knee Surgery Scheduled”
We know why she hid it!

Actresses these days have been known to work till the last stage of their pregnancy. This trend was set by Kareena Kapoor Khan but before then, not many actresses worked during their pregnancy. In fact, most actresses just gave up on their careers when they got married. But even in that time, there was one actress who managed to work after her marriage and also during her pregnancy while keeping it hush-hush. Sarika, Shruti Haasan’s mother was one of the few actresses who worked through her pregnancy back in the day. In a recent conversation with Hauterrfly on ‘The Male Feminist’, the actress opened up about hiding her pregnancy and working till her 4th month of pregnancy.
Speaking about motherhood, the award-winning actress and costume designer, Sarika revealed that she was working and shooting for a film till the 4th month of her pregnancy when she was pregnant with her first child, daughter Shruti Haasan. “I was working and shooting till my 4th month of pregnancy. I was pregnant with Shruti back then and I had not told anyone that I’m pregnant. Instead, I told them I have a knee surgery scheduled and I won’t be able to walk for like 2 -3 months toh shooting khatam kar lo,” said the actress.

When asked about quitting acting and hiding her pregnancy, Sarika said that it was her decision to quit acting and embrace motherhood. She further shared that she didn’t open up about her pregnancy, not because of the industry but because she wanted to keep it to herself. “When I conceived Shruti I had decided ki now I’m not going to act. I just listened to my heart and did what I wanted to do. I choose not to tell people about my pregnancy at that time, not because of the industry but because it was about me and my personal life and I had to be sensitive and sensible,” added the actress. But that’s not all, Sarika did work after she embraced motherhood, she just did not act. Talking about her decision to quit acting and take up other work after the birth of Shruti Haasan, Sarika said, “I didn’t work for 18 years and spent that time focusing on motherhood, sound designing and costume designing. I couldn’t do without work.”
