‘The Male Feminist’: Patralekha Was Amazed When Directors Raj And DK Did THIS For Her On Gulkanda Tales

We’re all well aware by now that the ratio of men and women on film sets is never the same. Most job-doers on the sets are known to be men. And even though this thing is slowly changing, it is worth knowing that there are some directors who are actively hiring more women on sets and are not differentiating between a man’s or a woman’s job. In the latest episode of The Male Feminist, Patralekha Paul has shed light on how she found this change of having women on sets quite assuring.

In a conversation with Siddhaarth Aalambayan in the latest episode of The Male Feminist, Patralekha Paul talked about how things are changing on sets these days. She said that the ones who fix their mics on sets are men. She said, “It is uncomfortable that he is fixing your mic. But I think things are changing.” Elaborating on how the filmmaker duo Raj and DK on the sets of Gulkanda Tales made her feel comfortable by hiring a woman who would fix the mic for her.

She said that when she was on a Raj and DK set, they made sure she was assigned a mic girl. Being thoroughly impressed by this, she said, ” This is amazing, right? She would come inside the vanity, and would fix the mic properly. These are very small things but it is very comforting.” Patralekha also talked about how the costume designer’s assistants are girls these days. She said, “Earlier the assistants were men because the tailor was asked to step up for the role.”

Patralekha Paul said that these things were still prevalent eight years ago but she cannot complain as things are changing now. Expressing her excitement at seeing women DOPs, Patralekha said, “I get so happy when I see female DOPs. I go, “Je baat!”
