She has always been someone who is true to herself in front of anyone and anything. And that is exactly what makes her feel liberated. In fact, speaking about this in Hauterrfly‘s The Male Feminist, Kirti Kulhari spoke about how this is a journey that anyone woman can take and it is majorly the fear of themselves that stops them from experiencing this kind of liberation.

While in conversation with Siddhaarth Alambayan on The Male Feminist, Kirti Kulhari spoke about how it was extremely liberating for her when she decided to stand up for herself and be completely true to herself. She even said that she believes any woman in India can feel this sense of liberation when they start being who they are in front of anybody and everybody.

Kirti Kulhari further breaks it down to highlight that the reason most women don’t reveal or be their true selves in front of others is that they are scared of what will happen if they are their own selves. She said, “It is the fear of agar I am myself toh yeh hojayega ya yeh nahi hoga. It is the fear stopping you from being yourself.”

The Four More Shots Please actress then goes on to say that she is completely fearless in a lot of aspects. Kirti Kulhari agrees that she also experiences fear from time to time but over time she has learnt to go beyond it and overcome it. Speaking further about the fear, she said, “Trust me, hum jitna soch te hai na ke yeh karungi toh yeh hojayega, aise bolungi toh aise hojayega – it can never be as bad as you think it could be. Humare fears bohot exaggerated hote hai.” According to her, there is no other way to be but to be yourself.

Furthermore, Kirti Kulhari adds that now she finds it impossible to talk to someone who is not themselves or is trying to be someone else or trying to pretend or fake it. She concludes by saying that she doesn’t have the time or the energy “for anyone who doesn’t have the balls to be themselves, to begin with.”

To be honest, I agree with her. Life is far too short to be someone who you’re not. And this is the lesson most people learn when they are already too old. So, maybe it is time to do a bit of soul searching and find your own voice because why be someone else when you can be you – the coolest person out there?
