‘The Male Feminist’ Ep 5: Isha Koppikar Is Bang On. Men Can’t Handle A Woman Saying ‘No’

When Amitabh Bachchan in Pink said, “‘Na’ sirf shabd nahi hai…apne aap mein pura vaakya hai. Isi kisi tark, spashtikaran, explanation ya vyakhya ki jarurat nahi hoti… ‘No’ means ‘No'” it was something that every woman felt. Because the truth lies in the fact that men don’t understand ‘no’. They think saying that word is a rejection or a way of hurting their egos. But what they do forget is that just like them even we, women, have the right to say no, nada, nope, not happening, etc. to things we are not okay or comfortable with. In fact, Isha Koppikar in Hautterfly‘s The Male Feminist talks about the same thing. Isha Koppikar says that it is a woman’s right to say ‘no’ and it should not be brushed off.

While in a conversation on The Male Feminist, Isha Koppikar emphasizes the fact that it is a woman’s right to say ‘no’, and just because it is a woman saying it, that word cannot be “just brushed off” and has to be taken very seriously. She even goes on to say how intimidating a ‘no’ is for a man that they can’t handle it.

When asked about a particular casting couch incident and how she felt about it, Isha Koppikar says, “I think a woman has the right to say ‘no’. And that ‘no’ has to be taken very seriously. It can’t be just brushed off. Unfortunately, men are so intimidated with this ‘no’ that they kind of, to a certain extent, try and sabotage her career. But got to be goddamn strong.”

Isha Koppikar says that when she was faced with indecent proposals, she chose her morals and values over everything else. So, she believes that a lot of it depends on the way a person is brought up and where they come from. Other than this, there’s a lot more she spoke about, check out the entire episode of The Male Feminist below:

I agree with the fact that men cannot handle rejection. And one of the reasons is that they are conditioned to believe that they are superior and deem themselves to be entitled to almost everything. So, when a woman says ‘no’, their male egos are hurt.
