“5 Lakhs Can’t Make Up For Mental Trauma”: TMKOC’s Jennifer Mistry On Sexual Harassment Case Against Asit Modi

Over a year back, Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah fame Jennifer Mistry Bansiwal filed a case against the show’s producer Asit Modi over sexual harassment. After her exit from the show, Jennifer revealed some detailed instances from the sets of the show, proving Modi harassed her. After taking legal action against him and receiving no response from the Mumbai Police, Jennifer sought assistance from the government of Maharashtra. In a span of four months, the Local Complaint Committee took the decision of finding Asit Modi guilty, based on the allegations charged on him.
The committee also ordered Modi to Jennifer’s outstanding payments plus an additional 5 lakh rupees. Post the verdict, Mistry came out and expressed her disappointment and revealed the period of one year, considering the legal battle was pretty traumatising for her. Speaking to PinkVilla, she mentioned how the legal spat not only affected her career but also pushed her to consider suicide as an option. She further revealed–” I am not happy with the verdict because 5 lakh can not be the amount to be paid for causing mental trauma to a person for one entire year.”
Jennifer also disclosed how Modi tried to sabotage her career in every way possible, influenced people, who later called her names. Mistry added–”I will drag him to the High Court and seek justice. If I let go of him by allowing him to pay an amount of 5 lakh rupees, it will only mean that anyone can get away with causing so much distress and trauma to others by paying some money. This is not what my fight is.” Jennifer mentioned that she is yet to be paid her outstanding amount, due for her work in the show.
