The cameo by Cate Blanchett in the season finale left us curious about what’s in store. Further details revealed the spin-off will be created by the well-known director David Fincher; however, as per the latest updates, the show has reportedly been shelved by the OTT platform, and here’s why. Why Has Netflix Shelved Squid Game’s American Spin-Off?
The American spin-off of the show was reportedly going to be directed by David Fincher. However, the latest reports suggest that this is no longer the plan for the OTT giant Netflix. According to a report by The Playlist, David Fincher’s Squid Game spin-off was going to be titled Heckler with Dennis Kelly on board as the screenwriter. David Fincher and Dennis Kelly were also working on an HBO project, which did not work out in the end. As per the report, there are many obstacles showing up in the writing and execution part of the show, which has become one of the primary reasons for the show being shelved.
The report further suggests that David Fincher committment with other projects, the continuous new additions to the development of the show, and the changes in leadership at the OTT platform are some of the reasons to let go of the American spin-off.
The report suggests that Netflix is planning to create different versions of Squid Game for different nations. It also mentions the names of France and Norway, and others in its report. However, these have not been confirmed officially and remain just proposals as of now.
