Shweta Tiwari Reveals Daughter Palak Tiwari Is Shamed For Being Skinny. Can We Not Comment On Women’s Bodies?

Being a parent is hard enough considering the fact that in our country most people do not understand the basic concept of boundaries and believe that it is okay to comment on how others choose to raise their children. I cannot personally imagine how difficult it is to be a mother in the public eye as you are open to scrutiny by multiple people who choose to hide their faces behind screens. However, Shweta Tiwari is someone we can all look up to who does not care what haters have to say about how she chooses to raise her children. Not only has she opened up about her daughter, Palak Tiwari being skinny-shamed but she has also talked about the shame that revolves around public breastfeeding. Her responses are so apt.

In a recent interview, Shweta Tiwari spoke about her daughter Palak Tiwari who has just joined the show biz. The young star has gotten mixed reactions as some people have appreciated her for her style and appearance but on the other hand, many internet warriors have chosen to comment on her physique. Shweta Tiwari dismisses these opinions and says that she does not care how her daughter looks as long as she is healthy. Shweta also says that she has never said anything to her daughter regarding her appearance or her weight, moreover, she keeps reassuring Palak that she is healthy and pretty and that is all that really matters.

Shweta also says that she has heard people call her daughter ‘skinny’ and ‘malnourished’ but she does not pay heed to these comments. However, she admitted that sometimes comments like these do get to Palak and she questions whether she really is that skinny. Shweta says she reassures her daughter that she looks fine for her age and as she grows older her body will also change. I, for one, cannot imagine how hard it is for a mother to hear people talk like this about their daughter but kudos to Shweta for being able to dismiss unnecessary opinions!

Shweta Tiwari also opened up about public breastfeeding and the shame that revolves around it. She says that people are free to get up and go if seeing her feed her hungry child makes them uncomfortable. Did she stutter?! She says that it is not like she is not snorting drugs. She is literally just feeding her hungry child; something that she needs to do. She also admits that as a mother she enjoys breastfeeding.

Shweta goes on to say that she was breastfeeding her son when he was three and a half years old during the covid-19 lockdown. She then acknowledges that breastfeeding is an unnecessary taboo and pointed out that airports have smoking areas but do not have breastfeeding areas. Moreover, she also questioned why only the ladies’ washrooms have diaper changing areas, whether women are the only ones that travel with children and why men’s washrooms do not have diaper changing areas as well. Her points are completely valid!

It is a shame that people do not speak about skinny-shaming as much as they do about fat-shaming. Both are equally wrong as commenting on someone’s body is inappropriate and honestly, kinda disgusting. I am glad that Shweta Tiwari was candid about her experience as a breastfeeding mother in public and is bringing light to a topic that is such an unnecessary taboo.
