Shanaya Kapoor Talks About Dealing With Judgements That Come With The ‘Star Kid’ Tag

I believe that no matter who you are and where you come from, there are struggles written in everyone’s journey. Of course, they might be different for different people but that doesn’t mean that one struggle is superior to the other in any way. I mean, think about the neverending debate on nepotism. Most people believe that star kids have it made. Maybe they do have it easy when it comes to entering the entertainment industry, but I believe they also have a lot of pressure because they’re carrying the weight of their last names. And irrespective of how good or bad they are, they’ll always be compared to their parent(s). Most people seem to forget that there are pros and cons to being a star kid, as we’ve seen in the recent case of Aryan Khan as well. Sharing the same opinion as me, Shanaya Kapoor opens up about dealing with the judgments that come along with the tag of a star kid.

In a recent interview, Shanaya Kapoor shared her thoughts on being a star kid and spoke about the fact that judgments are an inevitable part of her work life and she is well prepared for it. Daughter of actor Sanjay Kapoor and Maheep Kapoor, she is all set to make her debut with a hitherto untitled Karan Johar film.

While talking about the judgments that come her way because of the fact that she is a star kid, Shanaya Kapoor spoke about how she deals with them. She said, “Judgements are an inevitable part of the work I am pursuing, but I stay positive and focus on the people who are always cheering me on, whether it be followers on Instagram or the press/media, I focus on their love and support, then the rest just fades out for me! Focusing on the positives is the way to be.”

Shanaya Kapoor also opened up about her experience of working as an assistant director for the movie Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl starring her cousin Janhvi Kapoor. The need to take up this gig arose from her curiosity to learn more about the filmmaking process, from learning how everyone’s jobs on a film set are aligned to the workings of background action and how teamwork comes together. She calls it a fulfilling experience that left her rather enriched.

Shanaya Kapoor further added that being an assistant director taught her a lot about how the movie industry works and the different roles that people on set have. She explained that working on the movie set made her fall in love twice as much with the industry she was about to enter. In fact, according to the reports, her biggest takeaway from the experience was “learning how the process before reaching set is the defining foundation of creating the story!”

It makes me happy to know those star kids who are now entering the film industry are aware of the privilege that they have and also understand that it comes at the expense of being judged. I believe that no matter whether you are a star kid like Shanaya Kapoor or an outsider if you want to make a mark in the industry then you have to work hard and be dedicated to your work.
