The picture from Cannes is of the time when Shabana Azmi was there for her movie Nishant. She was also accompanied by the director Shyam Benegal and her co-star, the late Smita Patil. These days when promoting a film has become comparatively easier, Shabana Azmi talks about the times when the case was very different.
Shabana Ji’s photo was accompanied by a humorous anecdote. She revealed that, because there was little publicity or money at the time, Shyam Benegal asked the actresses to dress up in their best sarees and walk down the promenade to draw attention. The actress went on to say that whenever people stared at them, they would shout and summon them to the movie screening. And that’s how they earned a full house! She also complimented Shyam Benegal for his exceptional advertising sense.
