Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’ Starring Alia Bhatt Gets Release Date, Will Premiere At Berlin International Film Festival
The first Sanjay Leela Bhansali movie I ever watched was Devdas and I have been in love with his movies ever since. I feel that Bhansali uses unique themes and stories with equally compelling characters which are so based on realism that you can’t help but relate to their pain and at least empathise with them, if not completely love them. However, Bhansali uses beautiful colour palettes and tasteful shots to make the movie an aesthetic experience, creating magic for the audience. So you can imagine how eager I was for the release of Gangubai Kathiawadi starring Alia Bhatt and Ajay Devgn. And for everyone else who was just as excited for this one, the release date is finally here and it is closer than you might expect.
I, for one, was super excited when I saw a woman-centric movie coming from Bhansali, that too based on a real story. However, I had my apprehensions regarding Alia Bhatt playing the titular character, Gangubai. While I love Alia as an actor, I thought that she would not suit the role well, looking mildly too young or unintimidating while playing a woman as tough and bold as Gangubai. But, what I saw in the trailer blew me away because I feel that she did a brilliant job emulating the mannerisms of the character. Of course, this impression is based solely on the trailer as the movie is yet to be released.
Luckily, the movie release date has been announced by Bhansali Productions on social media. Gangubai Kathiawadi is all set to be released on February 25, 2022. The post on Instagram and Twitter are captioned, “Witness her reign in cinemas near you on 25th February 2022.” The release date for Gangubai Kathiawadi has been moved around due to the pandemic, lockdown, and also because Bhansali and Alia contracted the virus as well. Gangubai Kathiawadi will have a world premiere at the 72nd Berlin International Film Festival next month, according to sources.

I am looking forward to February 25, 2022 and plan to be there the moment the movie starts screening. As someone who is a sucker for women-centric movies, Bhansali productions and Alia Bhatt’s skills, I reckon Gangubai Kathiawadi will be a thrilling experience.
