Teaser For Meghna Gulzar’s ‘Sam Bahadur’ Is Here. We Can’t Wait To See The Female Gaze On An Indian Army Personnel’s Biopic! We know the release date too!
As the daughter of an Indian Navy Officer, I’ve grown up hearing stories of Bravehearts who saved the nation. I’m not someone who loves waving the Indian flag on Independence Day and Republic Day but that doesn’t make me any less patriotic. I take pride in being someone who gave up normal city life to ensure that my father could serve the nation and given a chance, I’d do it again in a heartbeat. Growing up in a fauji household, I’ve always loved hearing stories and reading up about the Bravehearts of the Armed Forces, be it the Indian Navy, Indian Air Force or Indian Army. And the one man that I’ve heard the most about is Field Marshal Sam Hormusji Farmji Jamshedji Manekshaw aka Sam Manekshaw aka Sam Bahadur. He was the Chief of Army Staff of the Indian Army during the 1971 Indo-Pakistan War.
Sam Manekshaw was the first ever Indian Army Officer who was promoted to the rank of Field Marshal back in the day. And Bollywood is all set to honour this military man by making a biopic on him titled Sam Bahadur and the teaser of the film is here. Directed by Meghna Gulzar under the banner of Ronnie Screwvala’s RSVP Movies, Sam Bahadur stars Vicky Kaushal, Sanya Malhotra and Fatima Sana Shaikh. Vicky Kaushal will be playing Sam Bahadur in the film while Sanaya Malhotra will play Sam Manekshaw’s wife Siloo Bode and Fatima Sana Shaikh will play the role of the then Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi. The teaser of the film shows Vicky Kaushal dressed as an Indian Army Officer with his back to the camera as he walks past several other Army personnel as they may way for him. The film is set to hit the theatres after exactly 365 days i.e., one year on December 1, 2023. Take a look at this video.

While we have watched several biopics on war veterans, this one is going to be a little different as it is being directed by a woman, Meghna Gulzar. It’ll be interesting to see what the female gaze brings to the story of the Indian Army Officer who led India to victory in the 1971 Indo-Pak war. We just can’t wait to see a woman’s perspective on a decorated military personnel’s life.
