Case Registered Against Twitter User For Sharing Deepfake Video Of Ranveer Singh Attacking PM Modi, Endorsing A Political Party!

In the recent turn of events, the deepfake video case of Ranveer Singh moved ahead with the Maharashtra cyber police initiating legal action against a user of the platform X, identified as @sujataindia1st. This case was taken into account against the user for allegedly creating and uploading a deepfake video that misrepresented Ranveer Singh. The FIR was filed on the basis of a complaint by Ranveer’s father Jagjit Singh Bhavnani, the case accuses the user of digitally altering a video to make it appear as if Ranveer Singh was endorsing the Congress party.

The said deepfake video falsely saw Ranveer Singh urging voters to support the Congress party, distorting his original statements praising PM Narendra Modi’d dedication to India’s cultural heritage, The actor had originally stated that it was PM Modi’s goal to celebrate India’s rich culture, heritage, history and legacy, where the actor tried to emphasise the importance of celebrating and remembering India’s roots admits the rapid modernisation. However, the deepfake version twisted his words to convey a political message encouraging votes for Congress under the idea of fighting for development and justice.

FIR Case About The Deepfake Video

The FIR was lodged under several sections of the Indian Penal Code, including sections like cheating and forgery for the purpose of cheating, as well as under the provisions of the IT Act. This is another one of the complaints that highlights the growing threat of deepfake technology to create misleading content of public figures which can potentially harm their reputation and mislead the public.
