Jaya Bachchan, Kareena Kapoor, More Share Opinion On Female Objectification In Films Amid Peddi Row! Makes Sense
Netizens have been criticising the portrayal of Janhvi Kapoor's character in the newly released Peddi film.
After the highly anticipated film Peddi was released, it garnered eyeballs for all the controversial reasons involving the portrayal of Janhvi Kapoor’s character. Many questioned the need to s*xualise her body when there was absolutely no need. Amid this, many prominent actress from the film industry gave their opinion against the objectification of female bodies in films. This included Jaya Bachchan, Kareena Kapoor, Kangana Ranaut, and more.
1. Jaya Bachchan
While conversing with Deccan Chronicle, Jaya Bachchan recalled her experience. She stated that no one ever dared to cross the line with her. She candidly revealed that she had only one unpleasant experience of being objectified by the director and she never worked with him again.
2. Kareena Kapoor
Kareena Kapoor’s comments are also going viral amid the Peddi controversy. She reportedly asked to look at Kajol in ‘Suraj Hua Maddham’ or Sridevi in ‘Tere Mere Hontoh Pe’ saying that they blew the screen apart without any skin show. The actress recalled that her mother-in-law, Sharmila Tagore, was covered from head to toe in the ‘Roop Tera Mastana’ song. Kareena believed that being sensual on screen has nothing to do with wearing revealing clothes or being objectified.
3. Kangana Ranaut
The actress, who is known for her unfiltered opinions, spoke with India Today and revealed that the objectification of women isn’t limited to film; such things also happen in local trains, bus or on the road. She mentioned that the lens of the film has been harsh to women and the line sometimes between seduction, vulgarity and the complete injustice to women gets blurred, knowingly or unknowingly sometimes. The actress further stated that even sensuality is a part of it and s*xuality is also a depiction of a story, adding that film indeed is not one’s educational subject and people are coming there for entertainment.

4. Taapsee Pannu
Taapsee’s old interview with Shubhankar Mishra has been going viral amid the Peddi controversy. She recalled her experience working in the South film industry, where actresses are reportedly asked to wear a padded bra. She highlighted the problem of who the director should convey this to, as there are usually one or two women present on the set. She said that the director tells the assistant director, who then passes the message on to the styling team or a female member from the hair team and eventually this message reaches the actress. Taapsee asked to imagine how embarrassing it would be on a set during a song shoot that someone has to get up and leave midway while everyone is watching and comparing the difference it made. She then stated that after this, they say that they still cannot see any difference and the actress is asked to go back and change again.
We think that the Peddi controversy involving Janhvi Kapoor just shows that even in 2026, women are just reduced to roles that cater to the male gaze. Even now, the conversation about this remains a central topic of discussion. Let us know what you think about this!
