In recent events, actor Payal Rohatgi slammed actor Imran Khan after he participated in the protest for Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation. He has now been asked to leave the country by October 28, since he is an American citizen and an OCI cardholder. While speaking to IANS, Payal Rohtagi said that Imran Khan should know that he is not supposed to be doing “stupid things.” She went on to call him a US citizen and slammed him for getting married and working in India. She further questioned his decision to go to the protest site and then said that all the “jobless actors” only attend protests to get “visibility.” She accused him of joining the movement just because it was being covered by the press. Apart from this, Aamir Khan’s ex-wife Kiran Rao has come in support of Khan amid his deportation row.
For the unversed, Imran attended the protests seeking Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation on October 10 at the Kranti Maidan, where he was also detained by the cops. After this, BJP leader Kirti Sonaiya filed a complaint against him with the FRRO, claiming that he was not an Indian citizen and that he was an Overseas Citizenship of India (OCI) cardholder. He further received a notice from the FRRO, which directed him to leave India by October 28, stating that he allegedly violated the Foreigners Act by participating in the protest, since he was not an Indian citizen.
