The film, which stars Yash, Kiara Advani, Nayanthara, and more, is facing backlash for filming crass scenes that involve the overs*xualization of women. The discourse about the same continued during which a person pointed out how Kiara was shamed for being a mother and doing intimate scenes, while Yash, who has 2 children, is being spared. After they called out such hypocrisy, people started sharing their respective reactions.
Why Is This Problematic?
Sure, after watching the Toxic teasers, it was hard not to cringe because the scenes that have been shown do hint at overs*xualisation of female characters. Many have been actively calling this out as well. A tweet on X went viral when the user mentioned that Kiara Advani is being questioned as to why she chose to do such intimate scenes despite being a mother, whereas people are not calling out Yash over the same.
From yesterday I have seen many tweets shaming kiara advani for doing such a role in Toxic despite being a mother of a child but not seen a single tweet shaming Yash for doing such scenes despite being a father of 2 kids. Why such hypocrisy?

Firstly, why is motherhood burdened with societal expectations? She is an actress who was just doing her job. There is huge gender bias because the thought of moral policing Yash’s choice on the basis of his fatherhood may not have even crossed some people’s minds. We are not saying men should be judged on that basis, but we are highlighting the bias and hypocrisy. It’s often the actresses who choose to do bold scenes that are questioned heavily on social media.

The Female Characters’ Representation Matters!
It’s so sad that even in 2026, some films, especially the mainstream ones, are failing at women’s representation on screen. The female characters are often overs*xualised or just ‘there’ in the story line and provide no substance. The same was the case with Janhvi Kapoor’s character in Peddi. The scenes involving her were problematic to say the least. Now, we know that Toxic is yet to be released, but looking at its initial glimpses, we are finding it hard not to call out how crass some of the scenes involving the female characters are!
