Being a mother is not everything!

In India, most women don’t have a choice when it comes to motherhood. In fact, if a woman doesn’t want to have kids then she is shamed, taunted, trolled, and criticised constantly. And while there are some women who give into the pressures of society, there are other women like Neha Bhasin who refuse to give in and are firm with their decision of not wanting to be a mother. Yep, in a recent interview, Neha Bhasin opened up about not wanting to explore motherhood – at least not in this life.

Just last week Neha Bhasin celebrated her 40th birthday. When asked about her plans in an interview, she said she is excited about this “era” as she has many goals she wants to achieve. However, being a mother is not on the list.

Neha Bhasin said that she doesn’t want to explore motherhood. She asserted that she is not going to be “a mother in this life” but always wanted to have an orphanage. She wants to build one where she can nurture at least 10-12 children and give them the love, education, and life they deserve.

Explaining further, Neha Bhasin said, “I never had a dream or a maternal instinct to have my own children. But I have always felt a lot about orphan kids. Since childhood, I was clear that I wanted to adopt. But then, I realised that instead of adopting just one child, why not do something bigger? In the next two-three years, I will start working towards it.”

And honestly, there is nothing wrong with her not wanting to become a mother. Let’s face it, motherhood isn’t for everyone and her not wanting to explore it doesn’t make her less of a woman. In fact, I believe that by starting an orphanage she is being a mother to all those kids who deserve the love of a mother. And that in itself is such a pure thought.
