EEAAO Star Michelle Yeoh Slams Hollywood Racism In Her Golden Globes Acceptance Speech

Racism and Sexism- no matter how much we hate these two words, we cannot escape the fact that it widely exists in every field of professional space. Talking about film industries across the world, the inequality in this space is not hidden. Many actors use the global stage at prestigious awards to boldly talk about this topic and share personal instances that they experienced during the early stages of their careers. Like, recently the Everything Everywhere All At Once actor Michelle Yeoh who won her first Golden Globes Award for best actress used this opportunity to slam racism in the Hollywood Industry.

Michelle Yeoh is a Malaysian actress who won the first best actress award at the Golden Globes for her movie Everything Everywhere All At Once. With this, she became the first Malaysian actress to win this award. But Michelle Yeoh was also a victim of racism when she first moved to Hollywood to start her career. During her acceptance speech, Michelle called out racism in Hollywood. In a mocking tone, Michelle revealed that Hollywood was a dream for her unless she actually came here. The first thing Michelle was told was that she is a “Minority.” In fact, people also judged her for knowing English. To such people, Michelle Yeoh savagely replied that since it was a 13-hour long flight, she learnt it on the way. The Golden Globe winner also shut out the musician on the stage who were trying to give her a cue that she had extended her acceptance speech. Michelle Yeoh told them to “Shut up” or she would seriously beat them. The first speech on the issue at the Golden Globes was raised by the host Jerrod Carmichael.
