‘Game Of Thrones’ Star Maisie Williams Reveals How Playing Arya Stark Affected Her Womanhood. The Conflicts She Faced Are Understandable.

Recently, former child actors Cole Sprouse and Millie Bobby Brown opened up about how women in Showbiz are sexualised and given a hard time from a young age. Now Maisie Williams has come forth and discussed how playing Arya Stark in Game Of Thrones from a young age affected her and her womanhood growing up.

Maisie Williams was cast as Arya Stark on Game Of Thrones or GoT at 12 and grew up on screen throughout the 8 seasons of the show. She opened up about her coming of age moments on set which caused her to have mixed, complicated feelings about her character. Maisie remembered when she was given a bra to wear in the costumes department for the first time and presented a contradiction to the athletic and tomboyish character she played of GoT. she said that as she grew into a woman, she resented Arya as the character was a barrier to who she really was. Moreover, she also resented her body as it wasn’t in alignment with the part of her that the world knew and celebrated.

When Maisie was asked what she missed about the show she said she misses none of it. She further clarified that while she loved her time on GoT, she didn’t particularly miss that period of her formative years. Additionally, Maisie said that she doesn’t want to miss it because she loved her time on the show. She looks at it with so much pride that she doesn’t want to feel sad thinking about it and doesn’t want to associate it with feelings of pain. According to the interview with British GQ, she said, “I look at it so fondly, and I look at it with such pride. But why would I want to make myself feel sad about the greatest thing that ever happened to me? I don’t want to associate that with feelings of pain.”
