Lara Dutta Opens Up About Menopause And Fictional Women She Wants In Her Support Tribe. We Love Her Choices!
Periods are such an important part of almost every woman’s life. And for years, it has impacted so many aspects of our lives, be it our physical, mental and emotional health or even our love lives. And many of us who go through periods might think that menopause is Amazing. Imagine going through life having to worry about this uncertain guest that comes once a month and alters our entire week; 2 weeks, if you count PMSing. And suddenly the cramps, mood swings, bloating etc, all of it… gone! However, menopause isn’t as roses and rainbows as we think it is as it comes with its own challenges. Enough that a menopause support tribe is something that almost every woman going through it would want. And Lara Dutta might attest to this as she recently discussed menopause and the fictional characters she would like to have as a part of her menopause support tribe.

In an event with Abbott, Lara Dutta spoke about menopause and the fictional women she would want on her support system. The first woman she named was Usha Buaji from Lipstick Under My Burkha, a role essayed by Ratna Pathak Shah. The second woman she named was Mrs. Priyamvada Kaushik from the film Badhaai Ho played by Neena Gupta. Both of these characters are powerful women and go against the norms of patriarchal society to explore and live their lives the way they want to. I feel like both of these films also challenge the lifelong patriarchal values we have all grown up with. And both of the actresses in question have also been vocal about their views on feminism.

I absolutely love her choices in fictional women. Both of these characters and groundbreaking roles challenged the very idea of what we think is acceptable or unacceptable. Also, Lara Dutta talking about menopause so openly makes a statement that these things are natural and nothing to be ashamed of. The normalisation of periods and period talking is very important and Lara Dutta being candid about it makes it easier for other women to discuss the same.
