‘Koffee With Karan’ Season 7 Episode 6 Review: Cousins Sonam, Arjun Kapoor Bring Love, Candour, And Hilarious Roasting To The Couch
To say that expectations from this week’s Koffee With Karan were high is an understatement. One of the Queens of the Koffee couch, and one half of an infamous duo that delivered an episode for the books, Sonam Kapoor was back! And accompanying her was the unofficially permanent guest of KWK, Arjun Kapoor. Though I think we need to give that ‘unofficial guest’ tag for this season to Alia Bhatt because host Karan Johar seems to be name-dropping her like she was a sponsor of the show. Koffee shots every time KJo mentions Alia in an episode! Ah, but we digress, and we shouldn’t because this is easily one of my favourite episodes this season (still biased about the Ranveer Singh one, because like Samantha Ruth, I am a Ranveerian for life). A Raksha Bandhan special, Episode 6 of Koffee With Karan was all about sibling revelry, roasting, and lots of ROFL because Sonam’s pregnancy brain delivered some downright hilarious moments!
But did it match all our expectations, as made evident by the tweets we saw at the start of the episode, anticipating some major savage truth bombs by Sonam? Hmmm, time to smell the coffee and spill the tea!

KJo’s opening monologue, which is increasingly resembling a middle-aged parental rant of sorts, was this time targetted at Bollywood weddings, and something about a Revenge Shaadi. Interesting… but moving on! Cousins Arjun Kapoor and a heavily pregnant Sonam Kapoor Ahuja, both looking lovely, made for a warm, funny, and candid duo on the couch. Sonam’s look reminded me a lot of Kareena Kapoor Khan’s when she was pregnant and on the Koffee couch in a black gown, coincidentally with Sonam Kapoor.
However, the sass and savage jibes were a little bridled this time, and it looks like the reason might be Sonam’s complete absence from the scene for quite some time now. She was mostly clueless about what was happening in Bollywood, and both Arjun Kapoor and KJo were surprised she even knew Arjun had a movie called Ek Villain Returns releasing! I loved when she kept mixing up actresses’ names, or her reaction to celebs calling paparazzi to the airport to click them! Sonam might not have been outright savage but the queen has managed to slyly mock everyone, from dad Anil Kapoor, brother Harshvardhan Kapoor, to a bunch of other actors and actresses, and roasted Arjun Kapoor too!

Sonam’s gaffe about not knowing Ranbir Kapoor, Ayan Mukerji, and Karan Johar’s film is called Brahmãstra and not ‘Shiva No. 1’ is already in the trailer, but the moment was still incredibly hilarious to actually watch! What’s more, Karan and Arjun’s reactions to Sonam’s gaffe made everything 100 times funnier! As Arjun pointed out in an earlier segment, where they played Sibling Trolls, Sonam does have a knack for overthinking and still saying things that make her sound silly. Nonetheless, Sonam Kapoor was adorable and hilarious throughout the episode, especially during her Rapid Fire round! But sadly, being funny and having one of your close friends on the voting panel still doesn’t guarantee a Koffee hamper win! She blamed the “pregnancy brain” for losing out on the hamper and the game and her replies being a bit tame, but I concur with KJo, she was an entertaining loser! This is the second instance in a row when an expected ‘savage’ guest did not win the hamper. And it did pinch a little that we can never go back to the era when celebrities could be unfiltered on the couch.
But let’s talk about Arjun Kapoor, okay? I was crushing hard on the older brother and the besotted lover vibes that he was giving off. He was funny in his own charming way, mocking Sonam without being sexist or patronising (some other male stars and a certain AK needs to know how to do this), accepted his flaws and trolls graciously, and most importantly the candour when he was talking about his relationship with Malaika Arora, and with Sonam Kapoor too! When he called her ‘Ghajini Kapoor’! Hands down, though, my favourite bits were when the two Kapoor cousins got real about their struggle with weight and emotional eating and the rough patch in Arjun’s life. I mean that sweet peck that Arjun bestowed upon Sonam’s cheek when she talked about being happy for him made me go “Awwwww!” I’ve toh honestly always liked Arjun, and this episode solidified them feels for my Baba’s (Ranveer) Baba.

The brother-sister moments, including both the honest emotional bits and the teasing banter, were the heart of this episode which didn’t flounder into ‘awks’ territory at any point, thank God. And none of it was over-the-top either. I was expecting some cameos, like Anil Kapoor, Ranveer Singh’s or Malaika Arora’s during the ‘Hey Karan, it’s me” round, and I did get some of these. Expectedly, there were major fails in the game round because I was so sure Sonam’s “pregnancy brain” wouldn’t let her get answers right! I mean, look at how other actors have done under pressure! Sonam gets a pass for sure!
Verdict
For a Raksha Bandhan episode, this was an excellent choice. For a Koffee With Karan episode, that too with Sonam Kapoor, NGL, it was thoda tame but still fun. Honestly, it’s fine if you cannot give me gossip and catty remarks all the time. I will take this kind of entertainment, with a pinch more drama, please. Oooh, that makes me wonder what Mom Sonam would be like on the couch! Can’t wait!
