Kim Kardashian, Katy Perry, Lizzo Condemn 4th Of July Celebrations Amidst Roe V Wade Overturning

Many celebrities, including Kim Kardashian, Kris Jenner, and others, have recommended that the Fourth of July celebrations in the United States be “cancelled” in light of the recent Roe v Wade Supreme Court verdict. The reality TV stars were among a slew of celebrities who rushed to social media on Monday to express their displeasure with the verdict and its implications for women’s rights. Kim Kardashian and her sister Kourtney were among the first to voice their opinion on the issue. The two shared similar pictures on their Instagram stories, protesting the country’s decision to deprive women of their access to abortion.

Following the two Kardashian sisters, Katy Perry expressed similar sentiments and used her song ‘Firework’ to vent her rage. She used her iconic song ‘Firework’ to express her anger about the issue. 

Jessica Chastain joined the celebrity outrage, posting a photo of herself while expressing her distaste. She captioned the image by saying, “Happy “Independence” Day from me and my reproductive rights.”

To commemorate the day, pop phenomenon Lizzo shared a video pledging a large donation to abortion funding. During the holiday weekend, she promised to donate revenues from her shapewear business Yitty to abortion funds. She posted a video of herself discussing her decision and captioned it saying, “@yitty PLEDGES 100% OF NET PROCEEDS TO @abortionfunds ALL WEEKEND LONG. JULY 2-4. Celebrating freedom on our terms. Liberating Every Damn Body.”

Padma Lakshmi also expressed her anger towards the decision by taking to Instagram and posting with a caption saying that is not much to celebrate this 4th. She then added that we can hope that everyone can be safe and peaceful and that soon America veers away from this precipice. She said that she will keep fighting for the day when all humans have the same rights (at least of their own person and body) and have privacy to make their own choices and to love whom they love and live in peace. She also added the hashtags #notahappy4th and #fruitfromthegarden.
