‘Kesariya’ From ‘Brahmāstra’: The Hook Is Still Our Favourite, But We’re Not Sold On The Lyrics

‘Kesariya’ From ‘Brahmāstra’: The Hook Is Still Our Favourite, But We’re Not Sold On The Lyrics

I guess ‘Kesariya’ has been one of the most awaited songs of the year, one which the audience was dying to hear since its teaser released in April. Moreover, because it is the first romantic song of Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor, and of course, the beautiful melody is an added bonus. But the wait is finally over and the full version has been finally released by the makers. ‘Kesariya’ is the first song from the mythological drama Brahmāstra Part One- Shiva, directed by Ayan Mukherjee. The song features Alia and Ranbir who are the lead characters of the movie. The beautiful composition is by Pritam, and Amitabh Bhattacharya has given the lyrics. The soulful voice is of Arijit Singh, and the additional vocals have been given by Nikhita Gandhi. However, is it worth all the hype?

‘Kesariya’ Song Review

‘Kesariya’ starts with Shiva (Ranbir Kapoor) apparently getting the first sight of his love interest Isha (Alia Bhatt) and well it is there when the chords strike. The scene cuts to the couple taking their boat ride in the Ganges. The shots have been taken in Varanasi. We also get glimpses from the movie so you have a little idea as to what kind of romance is going to be portrayed by the on-screen couple. Okay, cannot deny that both the actors have their respective charm in the song. Our chocolatey boy, Ranbir Kapoor might also remind you of Bunny and Alia Bhatt looks cute. The visuals also show Ranbir and Alia’s characters visiting a Shiva temple and the shots look very natural and fresh.

However, the music and lyrics of ‘Kesariya’ was expected to be better, going by what we got in the teaser. The background score is soft with Arijit Singh’s high-pitched vocals which might be liked by some but can also be a monotonous listening experience for others. It gives a “nothing new” feeling at times. But the chorus that was initially released as the teaser still remains the best part of the song. The romance between Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor did not seem to be as appealing as it was expected to be from the teaser. Lyrics basically describe Alia’s character Isha from Shiva’s (Ranbir Kapoor) perspective and he delivers very “mad in love’ kind of vibes for sure.  In fact the lyrics were all going fine until the part “love storiyan”, that’s where the disappointment happened.

All in all, a very average listening experience and did not really meet the expectations of such a long wait!
