Shabana Azmi Reacts To Kangana Ranaut’s Statement ‘Show Courage By Not Wearing Burqa In Afghanistan’

The Karnataka hijab controversy is getting more day by day. While the Muslim students are protesting against the ban of hijab and burqa, other students are protesting against them wearing saffron shawls. A lot of people reacted to it shared their opinions on the matter including Bollywood celebrities. In the middle of this whole controversy, the ‘Panga Queen’ of Bollywood Kangana reacted and as always, her statement created another controversy. Recently, Kangana Ranaut commented on the hijab row and said that show courage by not wearing the burqa in Afghanistan. After that, Shabani Azmi took a dig at her on social media.

The Thalaivi actress is quite infamous for bold and controversial statements. On Thursday, she posted a story on her social media account and shared a picture that shows two contrasting images of women. One image showed a group of women wearing swimwear which is from the year 1973 and the other image showed a group of women wearing hijabs with a caption that read, “Iran. 1973 and now. From bikini to burqa in fifty years flat. Those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it.” Re-sharing the post, Kangana wrote, “If you want to show courage, show it by not wearing burqua in Afghanistan….Learn to break free, not cage yourself (emoji).”

After her controversial post, Shabana Azmi reacted to it and shared a post on her social media account. She wrote, “Correct me if Im wrong but Afghanistan is a theocratic state and when I last checked India was a secular democratic republic ?!!!”

In January, an educational institute in Udipi did not allow some female students to enter the classroom as they were wearing hijabs. Soon after, the Muslim students protested against the hijab ban in Udupi’s Pre-University College and filed a petition in the Karnataka High Court regarding this matter. The case is in Karnataka High Court now and during the third hearing, the court ruled that no religious garment will be worn in college till the matter is pending. The next hearing of the hijab case is scheduled for February 14, 2022.
