As I have stated way too many times to count, I am a self-proclaimed TLC fangirl. The kind of ideas and concepts they come up with for reality TV and capitalise on honestly astounds me. However, one show on TLC that has always weirded me out is Toddlers & Tiaras which essentially featured child beauty pageant contestants and their families’ personal lives and all the prep that goes into being a child beauty pageant contestant. Now, tell me if I am wrong, but isn’t the fact that there are child pageants in the first place kinda creepy? Think about it, it is a bunch of kids dressed like adults (outfit and makeup) doing performances for adults who are scoring them. Tell me that doesn’t scream predatory and damaging. I bring this up right now because the news has just leaked that former Toddlers & Tiaras contestant, Kailia Posey has just passed away due to suicide at 16.
A statement by Kailia’s family confirmed that the 16-year-old teen has taken her own life. The family said that despite being a smart teenager with a bright future, Kaila took the decision of ending her earthly life. Her family devastatingly pointed out all the achievements and credentials that Kailia had earned over her 16-year life. They said that she had won countless awards and trophies. She was a talented contortionist who had already gone on tours. Moreover, she had been selected to be a cheerleader for her high school next fall. Kailia’s family also said that she had a passion for aviation and wanted to continue working in entertainment while pursuing getting a commercial pilot’s license, according to TMZ.

Kailia Posey’s appearance on the popular TLC show had also earned her the title of the ‘grinning girl’ as a still from her widely grinning turned into a meme and GIF.
Her mother, Marcy Posey Gatterman posted to Facebook about the tragic and sudden death of Kailia Posey with a post saying, “I don’t have words or any thoughts. A beautiful baby girl is gone. Please give us privacy as we mourn the loss of Kailia. My baby forever”. The family has set up a fund to help students in times of crisis.

I cannot imagine the pain the family of Kailia Posey is going through. May they get the strength to get through this and may Kailia rest in peace.
