‘India Lockdown’ Teaser: Madhur Bhandarkar To Show How Both Privileged And Underprivileged Classes Dealt With Lockdown

When the lockdown due to the outbreak of Covid-19 was announced, the entire of India had not anticipated how it would affect them. Those living safe and sound in the comfort of their homes with job security passed this period rather comfortably. But it was the labour class that was the most affected due to this lockdown. There was hardly anyone who gave a thought to where the daily wage workers, the labourers, the housemaids, and even prostitutes would go and how how they would sustain themselves in such dire times. And this is exactly the aim of director Madhur Bhandarkar’s new film India Lockdown. The official teaser of the movie was dropped on November 8. The ensemble cast of the film includes Sai Tamhankar, Prateik Babbar, Aahana Kumra, and Shweta Basu Prasad among others.

The teaser starts with a group of women in a brothel discussing how dangerous this new disease is that spreads by touching others, and how their business will work because they have to touch their clients. The next frame shows the resident of a cooperating housing society asking his housemaid to not come to work the next day.

The role of the maid is played by Saie and her husband, who is shown to be a daily wage worker, is played by Prateik Babbar. These two have bigger problems looming ahead like how will they reach their native place and where will the money to sustain them come from. In another shot in the India Lockdown teaser, Ahana Kumra, who plays a pilot, is seen drinking wine while her partner gives her a questioning look.

The teaser shows how both the privileged and the underprivileged classes dealt with the lockdown. How the problem was the same for both of them but the impact of it was very different. We’re looking forward to seeing how Madhur Bhandarkar brings these issues to light through this film. India Lockdown will premiere on December 2, 2022, on Zee 5.
