What Was the Golden Globes 2021 Controversy?
Back in 2021, the Times’ report exposed a concerning lack of diversity within the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA), the body responsible for the awards, with no Black members among its ranks. This triggered widespread backlash, leading stars and studios to boycott the Globes, and NBC declined to broadcast the event in 2022.
In response to the uproar, the HFPA took steps to address these ethical lapses by admitting journalists from diverse backgrounds into its fold and implementing reforms. This paved the way for a cautious return of the show last January, operating under a one-year probationary agreement with NBC. However, the network chose not to extend the collaboration moving forward.
