Honestly, it’s been a while that I have been super excited about a trailer launch, but knowing that the trailer of Gangubai Kathiawadi is releasing today had me start my day with way too much enthu. And now that the trailer has dropped, I can say with utmost certainty that it is everything I had hoped for, if not more. Alia Bhatt, Ajay Devgn, and Bhansali productions took to their Instagram to drop the trailer of Gangubai Kathiawadi and when I say that you’ve never seen Alia in such an avatar, know that I’m not exaggerating. Everything about the trailer screams power.

Having watched the trailer twice now, I can assure you that it is unlike most trailers that reveal the entire story in it. Director Sanjay Leela Bhansali tells a story about a woman in power who is a feminist in the ’60s in India.

From the trailer, Gangubai Kathiawadi – starring Alia Bhatt and Ajay Devgn – seems to be about the life of a madam of a brothel in Kamathipura, the famous red light area in Mumbai. Her body language, comic timing to her expressions, her dialogue delivery – everything screams about the actor screams of swagger and power. Making it a really powerful trailer.

Another thing about the Gangubai Kathiawadi trailer that stood out to me was her expressions – especially her eyes and the way she used them to emote emotions. Yes, I’m referring to the last shot of the trailer.

Honestly, one of the reasons I was excited to watch the trailer was to see how the actress plays the role of a powerful, feminist madam of a brothel. I was wondering if the role might have been too aspirational for her, but watching the trailer I can assure you that it is not the case.
I genuinely can’t wait to watch the movie in theatres on February 25th, 2022.
