It is 2026, yet many men still feel it is fine to judge a woman’s character, especially when it comes to marriage. They often check if she is “wife material” or not. This topic came up when Rakhi Sawant spoke during an exclusive interview with Hauterrfly’s The Male Feminist, hosted by Siddhaarth Aalambayan. She opened up about the expectations placed on women and how society reacts when women speak up. Read on!

When asked how women can raise their voices, Rakhi Sawant replied that women are not allowed to speak up freely. She explained, “No matter how much a man shouts, it will work. But if a woman comes up in the front and says it, they become shocked.” According to her, people still cannot accept a bold woman. She added that if a girl like her talks openly, she does not get good marriage proposals. People say she cannot become a wife and is not “Biwi material” or wife material.

Rakhi Sawant further clarified what society often means by “Biwi material”. She said it means a woman who sits quietly, massages her husband’s feet, washes utensils, stays calm, and accepts abuse from her husband. She pointed out that in many homes, whether rich or poor, a woman faces beating at some point, which is completely wrong.

She shared that people reject her as wife material because she is upfront about earning for herself and building a home. Rakhi Sawant noted that some girls who stay silent even if they behave freely are accepted more easily. However, outspoken women like her often struggle to find good partners.

During the interview, she recalled asking a man she liked to marry her. He refused and said she was not wife material. When the host asked what he meant by “wife material”, she replied it meant getting abused, listening to everything, staying under control, and not going out to work.
