Priya Mani On Pay Gap

In an exclusive interview with Hauterrfly, Maidaan star Priya Mani opened up about the pay gap that exists in the film industry and what she thinks about the same. She said, “I believe that the biggest reason why pay parity is there is because when you compare the hero, it’s the people that they bring in versus the number of people that you bring in. But I think that there is somewhere down the line things are changing, and I think the heroines are also bringing an equal number of viewers to the theatres as well. If not as much as a hero, it can change, it can increase.”

The Article 370 star also spoke about the evolution that has happened in the audience’s POV. She said, “From time immemorial, you cannot see a heroine doing action, I am talking about that time. But right now times have changed. Girls are now shouldering the burden of the entire project. If we talk about TV serials, the antagonists and protagonists are females, and most of the TV serials are led by females. So that is the power of television, that is the power of series led by women and the target audience is the women. And the same, nowadays, if the films have strong storylines, I don’t think people care about it led by males or females. By word of mouth, it spreads and people watch it.”
