Exclusive: Priya Mani On Women’s Safety On Sets: “We Didn’t Have Vanity Vans Earlier, It’s Much Safer Now”

During a conversation with Article 370 star Priya Mani, we got a deeper insight into it, and the actress spoke about the growing number of female technicians on the set. Priya Mani also shed light on the better working conditions for the actresses on set across film industries.

Priya Mani On Major Changes For Women Across Film Industries
While speaking on the same, the Article 370 star said, “I think the working space for women has completely changed for good. There are a lot more women technicians, nowadays. I have seen a time when the actresses were the only females on set, or if there were any other women, they were costume designers or stylists. That’s it. But there are a lot of women technicians now for the camera, production or costume. So, that’s a welcome change.” Talking about women’s safety on the film sets, Priya Mani said, “The surroundings have become a lot safer for women, and they are getting designated vanities for themselves. Long gone are those days where we had to use somebody else’s washroom.” She made more surprising revelations and added, “I have worked on such a set where there were no vanities for us, I had to share it with male actors, which is okay.”

Priya Mani hailed late actor Praneeth Rajkumar for giving her and her mother respect on the set when there were no vanities of actresses on the set. She recalled an incident, “I still remember shooting my first Telugu film with him and there was one vanity on the set, and that was for him. So I got ready in the hotel, and we were shooting a song, and I came to sit with my mom. We were the only females on the set. As soon as he got to know that I was with my mother, he gave his vanity to us.” Priya Mani also shared what Praneeth Rajkumar told him and said, “He told me if my mother was here, I wouldn’t want her to sit outside, so let her sit in the vanity.”Hailing Praneeth Rajkumar’s sweet gesture, Priya Mani said, “I have never seen an actor of his stature give so much respect.” She ended her answers by saying, “The biggest change for women is that now the basic amenities such as vanity are provided to them.”
