TVF’s Gullak season 5 is finally streaming on Sony LIV. The heartwarming show that revolves around the Mishra family is back, and Helly Shah has reprised her role as Dr Preeti in the new season. In an exclusive chat with Hauterrfly, Helly Shah spoke at length about her character and what qualities of a show make an actor want to come back. Read the exclusive for more.
Q. What do you relate the most to your character (Dr Preeti)?
Helly Shah said, “One thing I relate the most with Preeti is how grounded and humble she is always. She is modern, independent, well-read, and she has achieved things in her life; she also comes from a well-to-do family. But at the same time, she also wants to create her own journey with hard work and not someone who wants to depend on her father or her family’s support. While support is essential, she is independent, and I think I am pretty much like her. I mostly feel very uncomfortable taking help or support, I don’t know why, but yes.”

Q. What makes an actor keep coming back to the show?
For Helly Shah, this is her second season with the Gullak team, and she had a very heartwarming answer to the qualities that make an actor want to come back to the show. The actor said, “I think the passion, the intent, that honesty that everybody shows in making it what it is. I think if these qualities were not there, this show that has reached its 5th season would not have been possible. Not every day you see a show reach its fifth season. It’s been almost 7 years since the show, and people are still watching and loving it. So I feel all these things matter a lot, and the writing is the hero. The creators, the makers and obviously the platform. They are so particular, and they know exactly what they want to deliver.”
Helly Shah added, “There is no confusion. At times when people are trying to make a show, there are too many minds, and they are not aligned. But when everybody is aligned and on the same page, I think you get what you are trying to achieve. All the actors are as passionate as they were in the first season. I have just met, but the kind of passion they have for the show is unbelievable.”
Gullak season 5 also stars Jameel Khan, Geetanjali Kulkarni, Harsh Mayar, and Anant Joshi in lead roles.
