Shubhangi Atre Opens Up On Terrifying Stalking Incident
“That is a very scary event in my life,” Shubhangi Atre recalled. She was in 10th or 11th grade in Indore when stalkers wrote her name and theirs together on roads, buildings, and college walls. “If you open the door of the house, it’s written on the building in front, on the roads of the college, on the roads of the colony,” she said.
The host asked if they ever spoke to her directly. “No, just following me around the house. On the bike,” she replied. One day, her sister bravely told them, “By doing all this, nothing is going to happen. Be something, achieve something. And then you come and we’ll talk.”
Shubhangi Atre admitted the fear ran deep. “It scares a lot. You are afraid of what will happen next. You hear so much about rapes in the news. So parents and family get scared.” This terror stops many tgirls from stepping out, especially from poorer backgrounds.
She praised today’s women for growing bold and standing up for themselves. “This change should come in society. You walked over them for such a long time. So now they’re just saying, we are just getting up and walking. You can’t trample over us.” For her, this is why feminism matters most.
To fight back, she advised girls to speak to their families without fear and contact the police. With stricter laws and more awareness, change is possible.
