CBFC Cites ‘Nuanced Culture’ For Asking Makers To ‘Revise’ ‘Pathaan’
This does not seem right.
Deepika Padukone and Shah Rukh Khan’s film Pathaan has not even been released yet and the film has stirred up a major controversy that does not seem to be dying down! The song ‘Besharam Rang’ from this action-thriller has come under the scanner because Deepika is wearing a saffron bikini in the track and people think the lyrics are insulting the saffron colour as well. In what comes as a surprising statement from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), they have asked Pathaan’s makers to make changes to the song and the film.

As per reports, Prasoon Joshi, the CBFC chief said in a statement that the film Pathaan underwent its due examination process. He also said that the committee has asked the makers to implement the advised changes to the songs and the movie and also submit the revised version before the film releases.

Prasoon Joshi said CBFC is committed to finding a balance between the sensibility of the audience and creative expression. Talking about how our culture is intricate and nuanced, he also added that they have to be careful that trivia does not start to define it. Toward the end, Joshi said that the trust between the ones who create content and the audience is of utmost importance and that the former should keep ‘working towards it’.

Deepika Padukone’s bikini in the ‘Besharam Rang’ has made people go to Twitter to demand a boycott of the film. Madhya Pradesh minister Narottam Mishra was the first person to initiate this controversy by objecting to the actress’ bikini’s colour. He further said that the song is made with a ‘dirty mindset’.

Pathaan also stars John Abraham and Ashutosh Rana. It is helmed by Siddharth Anand who has previously directed Bang Bang and War. Pathaan will hit theatres on January 25, 2023.
