1. Hrithik Roshan In Zomato Mahakal Ad
In 2022, Zomato had to remove its advertisement featuring Hrithik Roshan after many priests from Ujjain’s Mahakaleshwar Temple criticised his reference to ordering food from Mahakal. The brand later clarified that Mahakal referred to a local restaurant and even apologised before taking it down.
2. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan In Kalyan Jewellers Ad
In 2015, Kalyan Jewellers had to withdraw a print ad featuring Aishwarya Rai Bachchan after many activists slammed the image showing a dark-skinned child holding a parasol over her. Many social media users called it “racist” and evocative of child slavery. Finally, Aishwarya’s representative addressed it and said that the final image had been altered from the original shoot.
