Barkha Dutt Says She’s Waiting On A Realist Film About Journalism, Wants Alia Bhatt To Play Her If Biopic Is Made

If there is a genre of movie that almost always sells in Bollywood, then it has to be biopics – Sardar Udham, Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, Mary Kom, Sanju, M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story, and many many more. And the best thing about the genre is that you never run out of inspiring people. One such person is the well-known journalist, Barkha Dutt. Barkha Dutt recently spoke about who she would want to play her if Bollywood ever decided to make a biopic on her – and her choice is Alia Bhatt. She also goes on to say that she is waiting on a realistic, good movie on journalism to come out of Bollywood.

Speaking about the portrayal of characters that play the role of journalists or anyone in the stream of journalism, Barkha Dutt said, “I know at least two films where the filmmakers actually met me. Javed Akhtar met me, spoke to me for hours before he wrote Lakshya. The team No One Killed Jessica met me. These are two people that I have read interviews with other actors who say that they have modelled their characters on me. I don’t recognize myself…I mean Preity Zinta was called Romila Dutta. She had my haircut, I had short hair then, she also had the same Barkha haircut.”

The exemplary Indian journalist also went on to say that she really doesn’t see herself in these movies, rather she thinks that there is a bit of caricature that is added to journalists in Bollywood. Barkha Dutt added that she believes there is still a good movie about journalist/journalism to be made. She said that she is waiting for a really good, realistic, complex movie on the life of a journalist.

When asked about who she would want to play her if her biopic was made, Barkha Dutt immediately responded with Alia Bhatt. Explaining her choice to choose Alia Bhatt, she said, “I am not saying this because she just has a film out but I am saying this because I really think she’s the most talented actor (Alia Bhatt). I mean there’s no question…the range, the sheer range, the ease with which she plays everything.”

Honestly, I’m not surprised that the journalist chose Alia Bhatt to play her. I mean, the actress has proved her mettle with every passing year and the range of characters she’s played in the last decade is really noteworthy.
