Amanda Seyfried Faced Uncomfortable Nude Scenes To Keep Her Job. Sean Bean, Now You Know Why We Need Intimacy Coordinators?

On August 10, Sean Bean revealed that he doesn’t prefer or like having intimacy coordinators on the sets – especially while shooting sex scenes. His reason was that it takes away from the ‘natural’ feeling that two lovers feel when they get intimate. Of course, that is the perspective of a straight, privileged, white male. And now, that we’ve heard his perspective, let’s talk about the actresses who have to go through uncomfortable periods when doing scenes that require sex or nudity. Just take the instance of Amanda Seyfried who gives a befitting reply (indirectly) to Sean Bean when she talks about how uncomfortable she was during her nude scenes when she was younger and the only reason she went ahead with it was that she wanted to keep her job.

While looking back at her career, Amanda Seyfried said that she came out of the pre-#MeToo movement of Hollywood “pretty unscathed” but that in no way meant that she didn’t go through her fair share of uncomfortable situations – especially those which involved nude scenes.

Amanda Seyfried was just 19 years when she broke out as an actor with Mean Girls (2004) and Veronica Mars (2004). Speaking about that time, “Being 19, walking around without my underwear on – like, are you kidding me? How did I let that happen?… Oh, I know why: I was 19 and I didn’t want to upset anybody, and I wanted to keep my job. That’s why.”

Adding to that, Amanda Seyfried said that she gets really grossed out by male fans of Mean Girls who quote a joke about her character knowing the weather by touching her breasts. She said, “I was like 18 years old. It was just gross.”

And this is why ladies and gentlemen, you need to have intimacy coordinators. They are not there to just help with directing sex scenes. Intimacy coordinators help with nude scenes and ensure whether the actors/actresses are comfortable with it. They are basically the link between actors and filmmakers in case the former feel uncomfortable doing something.
