Alia Bhatt has given us cinematic wonders with films like Darlings and Gangubai Kathiawadi. But there’s nothing better than Gangubai Kathiawadi. The Sanjay Leela Bhansali film not only won several awards but it was also a commercial success at the box office. On Saturday, Alia Bhatt won the Best Actress IIFA Award for her role in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Gangubai Kathiawadi. But do you know, this win made Alia the only actress to have won 4 IIFA awards for best actress in a leading role?

Alia Bhatt was nominated for the Best Actress in leading role for Gangubai Kathiawadi and Darlings alongside Shefali Shah for Darlings, Tabu for Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 and Yami Gautam for A Thursday. IIFA Awards 2023 was held at Yas Island, Dubai on May 26 and 27. During the event, Alia won the best actress IIFA for her role in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Gangubai Kathiawadi. The actress earlier won IIFA Award for Best Actress in the leading role category for Udta Punjab in 2017, Raazi in 2019 and Gully Boy in 2020. And with this win, Alia has become the only actress to have won 4 IIFA Awards.

While Alia wasn’t present at the event, she took to Instagram to share the news and express gratitude and apologised for not being present at the grand event,

 

Earlier, Alia Bhatt, Rani Mukerji and Vidya Balan were the only 3 actresses to have won 3 IIFA Awards in the Best Actress in the leading role category. Rani Mukerji won the award for her role in Hum Tum in 2005, Black in 2006 and Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna in 2007. Vidya Balan won the award for Paa in 2010, The Dirty Picture in 2012 and Kahaani in 2013.
