Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Alia Bhatt Starrer Gangubai Kathiawadi Bags 3 IIFA Awards In Technical Categories!

Alia Bhatt completely and absolutely blew us away with her performance in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Gangubai Kathiawadi. The actress left us all reeling with emotions with her impactful performance in the film. It’s no surprise that the film was not only critically acclaimed but also turned out to be a box-office success. After being nominated for multiple awards and winning 10 Filmfare Awards, Zee Cine Awards Best Actress Award, and 3 Indian Film Festival of Melbourne awards, the film has now bagged three IIFA Awards in technical categories.

The IIFA Awards 2023 is being held at Yas Island, Abu Dhabi on May 26 and 27. During the IIFA Rocks ceremony, Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Alia Bhatt starrer Gangubai Kathiawadi won the best screenplay, best cinematography and best dialogues. Apart from Gangubai Kathiawadi, Kartik Aaryan and Tabu starrer Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2’s choreographers Bosco Martis and Caesar Gonsalves won the best choreography award for the title song of the film. Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 also won an award for the best sound design.

FYI, Alia Bhatt has been nominated for the Best Actress IIFA Award for Gangubai Kathiawadi and for Darlings alongside Shefali Shah for Darlings, Tabu for Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 and Yami Gautam for A Thursday. Alia Bhatt already has 3 IIFA Awards in her kitty for Best Actress. She won Best Actress IIFA in 2017 for Udta Punjab, 2019 for Raazi and 2020 for Gully Boy. Apart from Rani Mukerji and Vidya Balan, Alia Bhatt is the only other actress to have won 3 IIFA Awards in the Best Actress category. If she wins this year, it will make her the only actress with 4 Best Actress IIFA Awards.

For the unversed, Alia Bhatt’s Gangubai Kathiawadi is a biographical crime drama based on the life of Gangubai Kothewali as documented in S Hussain Zaidi’s book Mafia Queens of Mumbai. Directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali and produced by him and Jayantilal Gada, this film also stars Shantanu Maheshwari, Vijay Raaz, Seema Pahwa, Jim Sarbh and Ajay Devgn.
