India’s star tennis player Sania Mirza recently announced her divorce from Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik. The announcement came right after Shoaib posted pictures with his third wife Sana Javed, a Pakistani actress. Gradually, their family members also confirmed the news. Sania Mirza’s father Imran Mirza also spoke about the divorce and revealed that his daughter opted for Khula, a Muslim right for women to separate from her husband.
What Is Khula?
During an interview with PTI, Sania Mirza’s father Imran Mirza opened up about his daughter’s divorce from Shoaib Malik. He revealed that Sania separated from her husband through Khula, a right with which Muslim women can unilaterally divorce their husbands. Khula gives the woman the right to initiate her divorce. In the procedure, the woman can or cannot return everything she received from her in-laws during the wedding. The sole motive of Khula is to protect the Muslime woman’s rights when it comes to initiating a separation from her husband and this Muslim law is not affected by the Dissolution Of Muslim Marriage Act, of 1939. Also, a woman opts for this only when reconciliation is no longer an option.

Reason For Divorce?
Sania Mirza shared a public announcement in which she revealed that her divorce from Shoaib Malik happened a few months back. In the note, she also sent her best wishes to Shoaib for his future. However, there are many rumours about their separation. As per some media reports, Shoaib Malik’s extramarital became the main reason that led Sana Mirza to file the divorce. The duo got married in April 2010 and also have a son together. Shoaib Malik received a strong backlash from the Indians after his third marriage to Pakistani actress Sana Javed.
