The star tennis player announced her retirement in an article in Vogue Magazine and said that she is ‘evolving’ from tennis to other things in life that are important for her. This year’s US Open will be her last professional tournament. From the moment people heard the news of Serena taking a bow from the game, they shared their reactions on Twitter regarding the same. Her fans saluted her for her tennis career, for breaking records, winning medals and trophies and for being one of the most legendary players in the history of the game. Twitter paid a teary farewell to Serena Wiliams.

Sports presenter Anne-Marie Batson wrote, “The greatest player of all time @serenawilliams starts her farewell journey from the professional game. The US Open is her last hurrah. We will never see the likes of her ability, strength and tenacity again, while a fan wrote, “I’m not shocked to read this, it doesn’t stop it from being bitter sweet. She dedicated her life, and body, to the sport. She is one of the best to ever do it. She inspired many of us, not only to play, but to even watch the sport. She earned the G.O.A.T. status!”

One of the Twitter users thanked Serena for breaking the glass ceiling for women of colour in the sport. She wrote, “Thank you, #SerenaWilliams. For showing brown girls that we too can be champions. For showing brown girls with natural hair that we too can be cover girls. For showing brown girls that we have no limits. You’re FOREVER the blueprint”, while another fan went on to give Williams in Game Of Thrones style. Aww, so cute!
