Priyanka Chopra Apologises To Disappointed Fans For ‘The Activist’, Says The Show’s New Format Will Be Better

There are several instances when a celebrity has made a decision based on what their fan base says. I mean, if you think about it, the relationship between a celebrity and their fans seems more like a one-sided relationship. And yet, thanks to social media, it has evolved in a way that fans can give celebs feedback. And recently Priyanka Chopra Jonas reminded her fans that it’s indeed a two-way street, when she publicly apologized to her disappointed fans for participating and being a host on the show, The Activist.

The actor along with Usher and Julianne Hough were chosen as hosts for the reality show. The Activist is a reality show produced by CBS and Global Citizen that was set to have a series of episodes where activists would be pitted against each other in front of a celebrity panel. And the success of it would be based on their social media campaigns. The announcement of the show received a lot of backlash from netizens worldwide. They claimed the show was insensitive, tone-deaf, and some even called their concept to be a “dystopian celebration of Insta-activism”.

There were some activists who took to their social media and reported on the ridiculous selection procedure for the show, which demanded the typical reality tv melodrama from these activists instead of genuine activism. And that perhaps was the final nail in the coffin.

In light of the fierce backlash by her fans, Priyanka Chopra took to her social media to apologize for participating in it.

In her Instagram post, the Bollywood actor acknowledged the voices of the fans and those criticizing the show. She acknowledged that it is the voices of the people that have moved her to write this post.

Priyanka Chopra wrote, “I have been moved by the power of your voices over the past week. At its core, Activism is fueled by cause and effect, and when people come together to raise their voice about something, there is always an effect. You were heard… The show got it wrong, and I’m sorry that my participation in it disappointed many of you. The intention was always to bring attention to the people behind the ideas and highlight the actions and impact of the causes they support tirelessly. I’m happy to know that in this new format, their stories will be the highlight, and I’m proud to collaborate with partners who have their ear to the ground and know when it’s time to hit pause and re-evaluate.”

She concluded her public apology on Instagram by stating that activists throughout the world are fighting each and every day to be heard and grab people’s attention on things that matter. She admits that these activists more often than not do not receive the recognition they deserve and celebrating them is of utmost importance.

In her post, the actor-producer also indicated that The Activist is still happening, but there has been some revamping of the format to make activism the highlight of the show and cut out the reality television part of it. Guesses are that this would now be done in a documentary format.
