Gauahar Khan’s Velvet Lehenga Makes A Convincing Case For Winter Bridal Fashion. Here Is How To Incorporate The Plush Fabric In Your Outfits

Usually when my social media feed is flooded with celebrity wedding pictures, or any wedding pictures actually, my first instinct is to close the app and go into a deep slumber. However, the snapshots from the GaZa wedding are not only making me stop and stare, but also save those pictures for my own wedding. Before you wonder why, it’s because Gauahar Khan has delivered some serious fashion galore for the brides on her wedding with exquisite ghararas and sharara sets and striking velvet lehenga that she rocked so effortlessly. Also, since they had a winter wedding, her bridal outfits were season-apt and a fashion inspiration for all the winter brides.

You might have missed it but most of the outfits Gauahar wore for her nuptial ceremonies featured long sleeves, plush materials like velvet and weighty dupattas that could keep any shivering bride comfy and warm in the coldest of days. Her Manish Malhotra velvet lehenga that she wore for her reception had her covered (quite literally) for her winter wedding. Whether or not she picked that outfit keeping in mind the chilly weather, it turned out to be the befitting choice for all those going to have a wedding in winters. For someone who’s already planning a wedding in the hills sometime around fall and winters (that would be me), Gauahar’s velvet lehenga is pure goals.

For long, brides have been sticking to the standardised bridal outfits that are not really appropriate for any particular season. However, the modern brides are now opting for styles and silhouettes that perfectly accommodate the extreme weather conditions. While the summer brides gravitate towards pastel hues, breathable and light fabric and minimal designs, winter brides choose from the varied range of velvet and silk numbers, deep hues and dupatta draping styles that don’t leave them quivering in the cold.

This season we are definitely vouching for velvet for its hefty yet comfortable material, luxurious sheen and unmissable royal feel. If you have a winter wedding on the cards or attending one sometime in this brutal cold, here are some styles you can add to your wedding wardrobe and stay stylishly warm all through the ceremony.

Whoever said wedding outfits couldn’t possibly be glamourous and keep you warm at the same time, didn’t see Mira Kapoor’s red velvet lehenga. The outfit comes with three-quarter sleeves and kurti which makes it a perfect addition to your occasion wear for winters. The intricate embroidery and plunging neckline are a subtle refine touch to it.

Here’s a gorgeous velvet kurta set from Karisma Kapoor’s style files that checks all the boxes for winter-apt outfit for us. Whether you are a bride looking for an outfit for a prewedding ceremony or a guest attending a winter wedding, this beautiful piece would keep you all cozy even in the freezing temps.

Velvet sarees are a bit of a gamble but you can pull it off as long as you go with the right style. Most saree have only the pallu side of it made of velvet for obvious reasons (it is a pretty heavy material and can’t hold the pleats). However, don’t go for the outdated two-toned sarees. Instead, pick a single colour saree with a sleek border.

A velvet blouse can play up your wedding look better and more aesthetically than the traditional embroidered one. Plus, it looks so stunning and makes for a striking pair for your Indo western outfit. Team a solid-coloured velvet blouse with your embellished skirt for a statement-making look.

The velvet co-ord set is for brides who want to keep it super stylish on their wedding. This floral set with long kurti and flared pants can also be paired with a sheer dupatta to make it look more ethnic and wedding-y.
