Mona Singh’s story began during the lockdown, a period that forced many households to reevaluate their roles and responsibilities. She explained, “Because in lockdown, we did not have house help, and I told him, ‘Listen, what is this? I know I can cook, but you have to help me.’ So, he was like, ‘Yeah, okay,’ and I said, ‘Yeah, you better.'” It was a moment of revelation for Mona, as she realized that even in a seemingly egalitarian household, the burden of domestic chores had fallen disproportionately on her shoulders.

What made this situation even more surprising for Mona was her husband’s previous lifestyle. She revealed, “My husband had been living independently for many years, with the assistance of household staff, and he’s accustomed to having everything attended to.”He would often make requests such as, ‘Could you please bring me this?’ or ‘Could you fetch my glasses?’ and I found it somewhat unusual.” Coming from a background where she had always been taught to be self-reliant, Mona didn’t hesitate to address the issue. She emphasized, “Given my upbringing, we had to handle all responsibilities independently. It’s your own household, so there’s no need to feel embarrassed about taking care of your own tasks.”
