Shilpa Shetty, Raj Kundra File Rs 50 Crore Defamation Case Against Sherlyn Chopra

In the past few months, a lot of actors and celebrities have had their fair share of run-ins with the law. One of them that made the headlines a lot was the Mumbai porn racket for which Shilpa Shetty’s husband and businessman Raj Kundra was arrested. As a part of their investigation, the officers looked into many of the other actors who were related to the case, one of them being Sherlyn Chopra. It was Sherlyn Chopra’s statement against Raj Kundra that was part of the charge sheet filed by the Mumbai Crime Branch officials in the Mumbai porn racket case. But the actress didn’t just stop with that. Sherlyn even filed a sexual harassment case against Raj Kundra and Shilpa Shetty. And very recently she accused the couple of mental and sexual harassment as well as fraud. Needless to say, she has gone on to various public platforms and made remarks about the couple. And now, Shilpa Shetty and Raj Kundra have filed an Rs. 50 crore defamation case against Sherlyn Chopra.

The couple sent a defamation notice to Sherlyn Chopra wherein they have asked her to apologize and pay Rs. 50 crore for the damages she has caused by passing “lewd, below the belt” remarks against them in public. The couple’s lawyer, Prashant P. Patil was the one to send the notice to the actor. They have even accused Sherlyn of attempting to extort Rs. 48,00,000.

Lawyers of the couple who filed the defamation case against the actor, wrote in their official statement, “The entire allegations made by Ms. Sherlyn Chopra against Mr. Raj Kundra and Ms. Shilpa Shetty Kundra, are concocted, false, fake, frivolous, baseless, without any evidence, even to Ms. Sherlyn Chopra’s knowledge, and have been made with an ulterior motive to defame and extort money.”

According to the reports, the defamation notice sent to the actor says that even though Shilpa Shetty had nothing to do with the JL Stream App founded by husband Raj Kundra, Sherlyn Chopra has been dragging Shilpa’s name in it for publicity. It also mentions that Sherlyn had informed Shilpa in April that her complaint against Shilpa’s husband is a fake one and it was her lawyer that suggested she initiate a criminal complaint against Raj.

Shilpa Shetty’s notice to Sherlyn also reveals that Chopra had called Shilpa and told her that she was ashamed for filing a criminal complaint against Raj Kundra and that she was going to withdraw it soon. The legal notice also states that Sherlyn Chopra must compensate both of them by paying them within a week of receiving the notice Rs 50 crore as compensatory damages for loss of reputation and business and bodily and mental agony caused. She should also publish a public apology in leading newspapers and digital media platforms to the satisfaction of the couple.

If Sherlyn fails to do the above, then Shilpa Shetty and Raj Kundra would move ahead with civil and criminal proceedings against her. The 16-page long defamation notice that was sent by the couple’s lawyer also asks Sherlyn Chopra to not make any unfounded, false, fabricated allegations and defamatory statements on any public platform, social media, or digital sites. The notice further states that Sherlyn is to bear the Rs. 1,00,000 cost of the defamation notice as well. The couple’s lawyer further went on to say that if they do not hear back from Sherlyn within seven days, they would start the legal proceedings against her.

It remains to be seen how Sherlyn now responds to this defamation suit. We’ll be watching.
