Ratna Pathak Shah Believes Film Industry Is On Its Way To Bring Glory, Credits New Filmmakers For Delivering Braver Stories
Ratna Pathak Shah believes the Hindi film industry is no longer delivering garbage in the name of movies. She also believes that Indian cinema is on its way to bringing glory on a global level with its work. The actor gave all the credit to the new filmmakers and their courage to tell braver stories to the audience, she believes that these stories will put Indian cinema in the spotlight.
Ratna Pathak Shah who has been a part of some internationally acclaimed films of recent times, including Lipstick Under My Burkha, and Thappad, said that in the past, the film industry delivered mediocre content and rightfully deserved all the criticism. “We were genuinely laughable, today we are not. Today, we take ourselves seriously and hopefully the world will too. We haven’t got there yet, we are still struggling with many things, but we are on the path. Down the line, the world will have to take notice of us. We will come up with shows, films, that will speak up, standup for themselves. Not in the niche, but in the mainstream (space). Our moment will come. We also happened to be positioned well, because look at the garbage the West is putting out in terms of films!” the actor said in an interview.

The Khoobsurat actor said that it pains her to hear disrespectful remarks about the Indian film industry because to a certain extent, they are true. She said that a large number of films were about trivial things and only a few films delivered content that is still loved by the audience even after so many years.
Ratna Pathak Shah herself has been a part of some highly acclaimed films of the 80s like Mandi and Mirch Masala and classic TV shows like Idhar Udhar and Sarabhai vs Sarabhai. Now, she would like to be a part of the evolving narrative and wants to play characters which can challenge her as an artist, Shah mentioned in an interview.

According to Ratna Pathak Shah, when writers make flawed characters for women, they make them like ‘mean men’. She mentioned that she got a role where she had to play a villain but she was supposed to do everything that Amrish Puri had already done. She said that women can be mean in a very special way and they don’t need help from men to do so. I cannot begin to tell you how aptly she has put it! And I really hope Bollywood is paying heed.
The veteran actors was recently seen in Hum Do Hamare Do starring Rajkummar Rao and Kriti Sanon and her next project is Jayeshbhai Jordaar, featuring Ranveer Singh.
