There are so many jokes about women being unable to control their temper, throwing tantrums and what now. But the fact is, men often do get away with doing the exact same things and then not even being reprimanded for it. Look at what happened today at the 94th Academy Awards, where comedian Chris Rock thought it was okay to mock Jada Pinkett Smith, and Will Smith thought it was okay to punch a man on live international television to ‘defend his family’s honour’. As for Jada, the woman who was the subject of the distasteful joke, she remained composed (of what we know from the footage we did see), and did not burst into some bout of aggression. It’s sad that the biggest night in film, which had quite a few history-making wins, will instead be remembered for this crap. According to reports, Chris Rock will not be pressing any charges. What’s more, Will Smith did get all teary-eyed as he won his first-ever Oscar in a decades-long career but had to then make it all about people who would do anything to defend those whom they love.
