Masaba Gupta Talks About Will Smith-Chris Rock Altercation, Says “I Hope And Pray The World Would Be More Forgiving”

Will Smith and Chris Rock made headlines ever since the actor slapped the comedian for cracking a joke about his wife Jada Pinkett Smith’s Alopecia during the 94th Academy Awards. Ever since the incident, the world and Twitterverse has been buzzing about it. Social media is flooded with memes and netizens are divided about who is right and who isn’t. Several Indian celebs also reacted to the incident including actress Flora Saini, Neetu Kapoor, Varun Dhawan and Shweta Basu Prasad. The next Indian celeb to react to the incident is designer Masaba Gupta. In a social media post, the designer shared her thoughts and opinions about the incident which is still a hot topic of debate across the globe.

In an Instagram story, Masaba Gupta shared that she has been looking at all the Will Smith – Chris Rock memes that have been doing rounds on social media and that all she can think is that if she had a vulnerable moment where she acted on her emotions on a public platform she would just hope and pray that the world would be forgiving enough to give the person a chance to correct themselves and move on without any harsh judgement. She went on to add that a moment like that would be the ‘greatest moment for many decades to come’. Speaking further Masaba Gupta said that if only social media enthusiasts like her would simply decide that no one is right and no one is wrong as no one knows their stories and decide to give people an opportunity to be their ‘best selves’ instead of crucifying them.

Take a look at her story.

We agree with Masaba Gupta on this. While I personally feel both Chris Rock and Will Smith are wrong, who am I to judge? None of us knows their stories and the kind of relationship they share or much of what actually happened except for what we saw on our screens. And yet, the entire world has decided to judge both the actor and the comedian and take sides even.

For the unversed, Chris Rock had made a joke about how Will Smith’s wife Jada Pinkett Smith could star in the sequel of the film G.I. Jane while referring to the actress’ shaved head due to her autoimmune disease Alopecia. In response, Jada rolled her eyes while Will Smith laughed before walking to the stage and slapping the comedian across the face for the joke. He went on to scream profanities as he walked back and sat on his seat.

On the other hand, several users stood by Chris Rock for continuing the show after the incident and choosing not to press charges against the actor for his violent actions. In his Oscar award acceptance speech, Will Smith tried to defend his actions while stating that he was simply protecting his family. Recently, the actor took to social media to apologise to Chris Rock for the incident.
